My Perfect Sandwich, so far

What to do with Canned Salmon?

What to do with frozen Okra?

What to do with Coconut Milk

Take baby carrots, broccoli, and sugar snaps and saute them with olive oil, garlic paste, ginger paste, cilantro paste (all from tubes), adobo, tony chiceros, and a bit of butter. Goes great by itself, or rice. Carrots and sugar snaps give it a sweet taste. This is not a compromise in taste at all. These veggies taste really good,

Clean fish. Drain. Coat the fish with Mayo. Coat the fish bread crumbs. Put the fish in a covered tray. Put the tray in the oven at 350 for about an hour.

12) 4988 Butternut Squash

2-Aug-16

Better cooked in a deeper pot. Saute Onions (it is better if done in indian style). Add squash. Add a tea spoon of Tuermeric. Reduce heat to low. Cover the pot. Heat for 15 minutes. Mix. Heat for another 15 minutes at low heat. Mix. and Heat again until it is squashed. Add salt. Add Cayenne pepper (if you want it hot)

Defrost shrimp. Heat Olive oil and onions in a pan (Yes you can add both at the same time). Brown the onions. Add defrosted shrimp to the pan. Keep the heat on medium. Add the necessary condiments. Take it out after 5 minutes. Don't overcook.

Defrost shrimp. Heat Canola oil in a pan. (Olive oil doesn't work as well with curry sauce). Saute onions to brown on medium high. Meanwhile, mix 4 table spoons of curry powder in a quarter to half cup of water. Add the curry/water mix to the sauteed onions. Reduce heat to medium. About 5 minutes for curry to turn a bit fried. Add defrosted shrimp to the pan. Keep the heat on medium. Take it out after 5 minutes. Don't overcook.

Not a small crisis making meals that are even a bit considered healthy and still be in good graces with your young kids. I may have stumbled upon one after a decade of daily stumbles.

As one may have anticipated, there may be differences in how we digest different types of calories resulting in a net calories being less than what we have evaluated them to be when taking in. Some of the factors appears to be whether they are cooked or not, cell structure of the food (which could get soft and lost during cooking), what kind of microbes are in your gut etc.

Salmon

Rich in amino acids, Salmon seem to have the added benefit of preventing bloodclots. You can also get Salmon in preservable cans that you can saute with onions to consume with rice.

Neuroplasticity

That this can not occur with out attention has implications. If a skill becomes so routine you do it on autopilot, practicing it will no longer change the brain

Like a diamond that is forged out of pressure, difficulty seem to be the seat of brain empowerment or transformation

Lightly cook onions and shrimp (towel dried) in olive oil with adobo, salt, paprika, and black pepper.

Apparently one can gain as much as 10 years of living by eating less.

29) Snacking before meals

9-Jan-10

Apparently it takes about 30 minutes after you stopped eating for your body to notice that it is not hungry. The hormone responsible for hunger is called "ghrelin". Apparently it takes that much time for this hormone levels to subside. Looks like a 100 calorie snacks 30 minutes prior to dinner may do the trick.

A simple recipe that worked quite well for cooking canned royal red salmon. It is full of fish oils and tastes pretty good too.

Serving instructions

Good for packing lunches for kids if they have a microwave available. Saves well in the fridge for the week.

Mixed Rosemary garilic seasoning
Cilantro crushed seasoning (You can buy this in a convenient tube)
1 large white onion

1 pack of boneless chicken thighs (6 pieces)
4 or 5 large long carrots
1 can of drained sweet peas

With my fickle mental constitution, I am glad I grew up in less wealthier and needier times, where by necessity I have chanced into some habits that are proving to be valuable. My kids just won't touch this concoction. It is a broth that is just "yucky" everytime they see it and never fail to be mentioned. I am not sure if I would try it if I had not been used to it. You won't call someone half of whose wardrobe contains white shirts adventurous. Half my shirts are white. However, those that are healthy-nuts and wrestle life, here is a tradition perhaps you might grow to like.

I seriously doubt anyone else will make tandoori chicken this way. It is not entirely awful.

Ingredients as they turned out

2 to 3 large onions, sweeter the better
1 potato
A can of peas and carrots
half a can of tomato sauce
hot water
Oil and south indian condiments

Prepare the oil

If you know south indian cooking, you know what to do here. Otherwise, heat the oil and chenna dal until the dal is reddish. Add mustard seeds and fennel seeds (I think) and curry leaves.

Add onions

With in a few seconds add cut onions. Use more onions for sweetness and content. Let them brown

Add potato

Peel, Cut and add the potato. Fry it until it softens.

Add the can of peas

Add the can of peas after draining the water. Fry them for a 5 minutes or so

Add the tomato sauce

Add the tomato sauce and hot water. Boil on medium for 10 to 15 minutes. Add turmeric, salt and pepper.

More stuff

I suppose you can add a couple of fresh peppers for spice

Eat with

Tastes very good with long grained basmati rice. Roti would be my second choice

It is hard to find a good snack that is reasonably healthy and at the same time edible.

"Fruit & Nut Almond, raising, peanut & cranberry" snack bars from Nature valley is pretty decent.

42) Sauteed mushrooms

16-Feb-04

It is odd what a 1 year old likes. As of now the hands down favorite food of my 1 year old son is "Sauteed Mushrooms" that my wife cooks. He seem to chomp down an infinite supply of these. He seem to be OK since he has been doing this for a couple of weeks now. The baby food that I buy from a near publix, I must have thrown out more in the garbage than he ate.
